CLUB & TEAM
The Equestrian Club at York is a competitive sports club for those wanting to continue their riding experience while at university, start lessons for the first time or learn more about horses and the equestrian world.
The club offers a range of exciting opportunities throughout the year. Our members get access to discounted lessons at top facilities just north of Toronto, discounted tickets to events like the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair, and access to all our clinics and information sessions.
Our club is also comprised of a competitive team that takes part in the Ontario Collegiate Equestrian Association (OCEA), an intercollegiate hunter equitation circuit. The squad has experienced plenty of success in the past few years. Last year (2016-2017) our team had Top 10 finishes in every division on the circuit, and also completed the year as Reserve Champion Team of the Central Zone.
Our team captains are currently organizing the date for our OCEA team tryouts. All those wishing to try out for the team must be a member of the York Equestrian Club first, including providing a membership fee and requisite waivers. Every year our team is comprised of both returning members and new members, so if you are interested in trying out for the team or seeking more information, email our captains at email@example.com. We will also add you to the club mailing list so that you are aware of all upcoming events the club is hosting!

Members have the opportunity to train at the Pickering Horse Centre for a discounted lesson rate.
The equestrian club runs throughout the year, with competitions taking place between September and March. Competitive members must ride at least one per week with the club coach in an organized lesson program.
The York University Equestrian Club and Team is currently riding out of the Pickering Horse Centre, a full-service hunter/jump barn located on 26 acres of farmland near Pickering, Ontario. The facilities include 6 outdoor riding rings, stabling for over 100 horses, and a spacious and heated indoor riding arena. The staff includes numerous coaches with coaching certification and extensive years of experience in both coaching and riding English disciplines. In addition to their riding school and hosting numerous “Trillium” rated horse shows throughout the summer, PHC has also hosted a number of OCEA horse shows over the past year.
For more information about the Pickering Horse Centre, visit www.pickeringhorsecentre.ca.
Tryouts this year will be hosted at 4 p.m. on September 18th at The Pickering Horse Centre.
The structure of our tryouts are very similar to how an OCEA horse show would run. Once arrived at PHC, you will watch a couple of horses being warmed up, each suitable for their respectful division. Once watching the horses be warmed up over a course, the riders trying out will mount their designated horse and pilot it around a course of 7-8 jumps. We structure these tryouts as similar to a horse show as we can, to see who stands out and so everyone can get a feel for the OCEA program.
